What is the primary message of your poster?  What is the height and width for the maximum poster size?  What font size should be used?  These questions address both holistic and stylistic choices that must be considered when designing a successful conference poster. Therefore, this workshop will focus on the basic tenets of effective design when constructing a conference poster.  Workshop participants should come with a topic in mind so that they can begin to draft a potential poster conference.

Concept Mapping: CMap 

In the first of these two mapping workshops, we will look at CMap, a freeware concept mapping program used by NASA and others.  CMap is collaborative (more than a single user can work on a map and extend the map by including other maps) and distributive (a free CMap server is available so that maps can be hosted locally).  CMap improves upon similar free products with its superior display qualities on the computer screen, to a printer, and as a graphic file.

Black Squirrel Adventure Triathlon

The Black Squirrel Adventure Triathlon is a three stage race, canoeing/kayaking, running and biking. Participants may enter under two categories: flat water or white water. White water section is class 1 rapids at normal water levels. Participants can either enter Individually, team or relay. Individuals can use a kayak or share in the time with someone in a canoe. A team consists of 2 participants and has one combined total time. Relay consist of 3-4 participants and has one overall time. Distances: White water leg: 3.5 miles Flat water leg: 1.8 miles Running: 5K / 3.1 miles Biking: 10 miles This is a great town and gown event!

Enter the Dance: Verlezza Dance Ensemble Performance

This program by Ohio’s own Verlezza Dance, highlights the com pany’s philosophy that anyone can “enter the dance.” The dances and interactive segments demonstrate that all people, regardless of perceived disability, have a dance inside them. O?ering the message of inclusion and speaking as ambassadors of dance as an art form, the performance will show the potential in all of us, especially when we have free and full access to our world.

Norbert "Nobby" Lewandowksi Inspirational Speaker

As an accomplished Kent State athlete and alumnus, having played
professional baseball and later having started his own accounting
firm, Nobby has also become a huge success in the arena of public
speaking despite being a stutterer. Using his own experiences,
Nobby encourages people to embrace what may appear to be ad-
versity and turn it into a character-building success. He illustrates
how integrity is the key to how people view us both as leaders and

JOSH SUNQUIST: View a movie of Josh’s story and then speak with him LIVE via Skype for a Q & A session!

At age nine Josh was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and given a 50% chance to live. He spent a year on chemotherapy treatments and his left leg was amputated. Doctors declared Josh cured of the disease at age thirteen. Josh began speaking to groups about his experi- ences at age ten. He has since shared his story as a keynote speaker at schools, Fortune 500 companies, and in Washington, DC at the White House. At eighteen, he was the second youngest person ever accepted as a Professional Member of the National Speaker’s Association. Don’t know who Josh is?
